While I was at the Quiksilver Pro covering Fashion’s Night Out for Roxy this past Thursday, I was lucky enough to enjoy the sights and sounds of Soho (I even found free parking). The night was packed with people, makeup, nails, signings, and an all around good time. Like all good things, the night eventually ended and I listened to a few voicemails patiently waiting on my phone. 1 was from my Grandma and the other from my Mom. They were wishing me a happy birthday… I was so caught up that I just about forgot!
As I walked back to my car I navigated the sea of bodies. Girls in incredibly short skirts. Guys with fashionably fashioned hair. People were everywhere. I looked up at the tall buildings on Broadway and I saw the September 11th memorial, Tribute In Light. I was paralyzed. Here I was having the week of my life, enjoying my birthday and attending my first ASP event when I was struck with the greater reality of the week. Memories and emotions flooded my head.
Today marks the 10th anniversary of the terror attacks on September 11th 2001. I remeber where I was, what I saw from New Jersey and I can even remember the smell of the burning rubble. It pains me to look at the photography from that day. I have tried a few times to get through some of the images recorded from photographers in and outside the City, but I suppose that I am still digesting what happened that day.
