Surfing In Indonesia
We scored some great waves in Indo, at first the size department started off slow. We were tired, jet lagged and a tad grumpy. Our first day in da islands the swell had not yet arrived, but what’s better than washing the travel stink off in 85 degree clear blue water? For today enjoy a few head dips from the Mentawais.
Oh yeah we threw the lines out from the get go. Tune in later on to see what we caught.

Mentawai Islands Indonesia
After a 2 week furlough new updates are here from the Mentawai Islands. Expect to see photos from the Indian Ocean this next week.
"Your Shot" Contest at National Geographic
Please vote the below image of Luke Ditella. Click the photo and it will take you to the Nat Geo “Your Shot” webpage. I cannot direct link to it, but mine and Luke’s photo is #41 (second page of June’s Week 2). You must vote through all the images before you can vote on this one. It is currently in second place behind the first image of the shaggy bull animal.
Just as one of New Jersey’s blizzards was raging in early 2010, a bunch of us paddled into 38 degree water to score a few barrels. The storm was passing, however, it was still snowing when we arrived. An hour before sunset, there was a break in the weather and the first rays of sun shone on the line up. Here Luke Ditella and I seemingly connect at that precise moment.

New Jersey Names
New Jersey breeds a lot of surf talent. We are aware of so many different niches in surfing that it may be hard to keep track of all the pros churned out of the Garden State. Free surfers to contest guys, photos and film all transmit what everyone is up to. Young up and comers to old salts who paved the way, Jersey seems to have it all. Well sometimes someone pops up and you realize we have just plain old good surfers. No stickers, no names, just surfers.
Mark Gilmartin recently graduated from Hawaii Pacific and has been spanning the globe. Australia and Mexico have been a few of his recent jaunts since graduating. Back in New Jersey now, he is soon to be reluctantly succumbing to our worst nightmare. His major of International Business is fitting to his lifestyle. Well traveled and mild mannered, Gilmartin was seen recently charging Puerto Escodito and points South. He made it in front of Surfing Magazine‘s staff photographer Jeff Flindt on a good sized day and scored a great sequence (a photo of which we yanked and credited). Hopefully in between board meetings this fall, Mark can dip out and catch a few.
Enjoy the photos we jacked from Facebook.

Artist, Glen Brown
After an absence lasting a few months, Tyler Vaughan is back in the water. Although I posses no photo evidence of such rumors (maybe next swell?), he brought me up to speed on a good friend of his, artist Glen Brown. Glen recently threw down some rad drawings on a couple fresh boards. Want your board blinged out?
“Here are a few shots of the artwork my friend, Glen Brown, created on my board. He goes by the pen name Sceptor. He is my homey and grew up spending summers on LBI. If you want to get in touch with him, email is shj2005@comcast.net and he is interested in doing artwork on boards, canvases, people, anything. Add him on Facebook to check out some of his stuff: Glen Brown”
