Fire In West End – Long Branch – February 13 2012

Long Branch New Jersey is such an integral part of Monmouth County surfing that I felt incredibly torn when I found out West End was on fire February 13 2012 (full story here) and I was in Hoboken working. I didn’t arrive on Brighton Ave until the following morning, Valentine’s Day. I am grateful that no one was hurt in such a large event that reduced apartments and businesses to smoldering ash and rubble. The fire could be seen for miles and immediately I thought of the Long Branch Fishing Pier Fire which was another huge structure fire in town that occurred Monday June 8, 1987 due to a gas leak.

About Ryan Struck

I am a self-taught Brooklyn based photographer. Earning a BA in History allowed me to investigate the things that have occurred in the world of which I knew nothing about. In that same spirit, photography allows me to be curious about the world and what surrounds us. I enjoy saving poignant moments through a visual medium, documenting lifestyle often fulfills this need quite nicely. I love what I do. When not at home shooting I can be found traveling in search of surf and inspiring natural lighting. My desire to capture images that help viewers imagine the instant the shutter clicked fuels my passion to combine beautiful light, people and places.
